Twenty three people arrested in connection with selling adulterated fuel

In Belgaum, India, police seized nine furnace oil tankers and cash worth more than Rs 1.28 crore (US$285,560) and arrested 23 people in connection with a case of fuel adulteration. Allegedly, drivers of furnace oil tankers from Kalaghatagi Taluk in the Dharwad district were found selling furnace oil to companies in the Dharwad industrial area, who then adulterated and resold the adulterated product. Tanker drivers were reported to have purchased the furnace oil at Goa, Karwar and Mangalore from some of India’s major oil marketing companies. (March 5, 2011)
