Toyota sells 5 million vehicles outside of Japan

By the end of March, Toyota Motor Corporation sold five million pick-up trucks, mini-vans and sport utility vehicles in markets outside Japan. The vehicles were manufactured in 11 locations across the globe. Diesel engines were made in Thailand, while gasoline engines were produced in Indonesia. These were sold in 170 countries outside of Japan by the end of 2011. Toyota developed 330 variations of its vehicles and used two vehicle platforms as part of the company’s Innovative International Multipurpose Vehicle project which aims at developing and producing vehicles abroad to best supply local demand. “As the markets continue to grow, we expect further growth of sales,” said Toyota’s Managing Officer Kazuhiro Kobayashi.
