Toyota Motor to expand capacity in India
Toyota Motor Corp. will invest US$164 million to boost production capacity by 50% at two factories in India.
“India has huge potential and first, we want to make sure that we serve this market well,” said Vikram Kirloskar, vice chairman of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd., the local unit of the Japanese automaker.
Toyota plans, within six months, to increase output capacity to 310,000 vehicles a year at the two factories outside Bangalore. The majority of the new capacity will be dedicated toward the Etios, a range of hatchbacks and sedans, and the Innova, a multi-purpose vehicle.
