Toyota expands car hub in Laguna
Toyota Auto Parts Philippines Inc. (TAP), a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP), has invested an additional Php5.6 billion (US$119.3 million) to produce R-Type transmissions, which are used in multi-purpose vehicles. Other Toyota sites producing the same transmission are located in Japan, Thailand and India. We will be intensifying our exports of transmissions to the ASEAN and Africa, Toyota Vice President Rommel Gutierrez said. The transmission plant in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, which is operating at full capacity, has a total output of 180,000 units per year. With the expansion in place, Gutierrez said the number would increase to 330,000 units each year. As much as 290,000 units will be exported next year to eight countries, including Argentina, South Africa and Venezuela.”Philippine production, cost-wise, is low, and quality is high,” said Toyota Auto Parts President Yasuro Takeuchi.
