Toyota Etios to enter trial build in September

Toyota plans to commence trial production of its Etios small car in September in India. The actual launch of the car will follow three months after trial production begins. The cars will roll out of Toyota’s second manufacturing facility near Bangalore. “Before starting the commercial production in December, we will have two rounds of trial productions. While one will start in September, the next one will be in October,” Press Trust of India quoted Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) Deputy Managing Director (Commercial) Shekar Viswanathan as saying. Toyota unveiled the Etios in January this year. The model, which is being developed especially for the Indian market, marks the entry of the OEM into India’s small car segment, the largest segment in the country. Viswanathan would not divulge the exact number of cars Toyota intends to produce for its trials. (August 31, 2010)
