Toyota developing biofuel for cars

Toyota Motor Corp. announced that it will exert more effort towards the development of a biofuel for commercial use by 2020. The Japanese automaker also said that it is planning to market a hybrid vehicle powered by biofuel, which is environment-friendly. Towards this end, the company has already developed a yeast that produces ethanol through the efficient fermentation of sugar derived from an inedible tropical species of grass called napier grass. Japan’s biggest automaker says it will devise a low-cost method of producing the environment-friendly fuel by 2015, which it plans to produce commercially by 2020. (October 3, 2011)
