Toyota and CATARC to start plug-in hybrid tests in China
Toyota Motor Corp. and Chinese government-affiliated China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC) have signed an agreement to conduct a joint verification test of the Prius plug-in hybrid in Tianjin, China. The goal of the verification tests, which will start this year, is to determine the adaptability and usefulness of the Prius in China. Toyota has already started verification tests of the Prius plug-in hybrid in Japan, the U.S., and France. Toyota will select drivers to evaluate the vehicle during use for commuting and other daily use, while CATARC and Toyota will measure fuel efficiency, charging times, electric-vehicle driving range, etc., and will analyze and evaluate data collected. The Prius Plug-in Hybrid, which can be charged using an external power source, such as a regular household electric outlet, is scheduled for commercial launch at the start of 2012. (October 29, 2010)
