Thailand plans to offer tax incentives for diesel cars
Thailands Industry Ministry is planning to offer tax incentives for Mercedes-Benz and BMW to build environmentally friendly diesel cars. The two German automakers have expressed interest in introducing their latest-generation diesel technology, said Sorayut Phettakul, an adviser to the Industry Minister. Vehicles equipped with new diesel engines consume a liter of diesel for every 23 kilometers driven. ”This technology could complement the government’s eco-car program, which targets medium-income motorists,” said Sorayut. ”The third generation of diesel could be a fuel-saving option for affluent drivers.” Sorayut said BMW and Benz could set up production facilities in Thailand because of the incentives.
