Tata says new diesel version of Indica eV2 is India’s most fuel efficient car
A new version of Tata Motors’ hatchback Indica Ev2 is available with either a diesel or gasoline fuel injection engine. The petrol option will run on a multi-point fuel injection engine. Both these engines are compliant with BS4 emission norms. Tata claims that the diesel version can run 25 km on a liter of diesel fuel, making it the most fuel efficient car in India. The new Indica hatchback comes with a common rail diesel engine. The company claims the new CR4 engine gives the car 32% more power, 65% increase in torque and a 46% improvement in fuel efficiency. Features of the new launch include an Auto Drive Assist, which prevents stalling on steep hills, and the Clutch to start feature. The car also has power windows, keyless entry, Bluetooth enabled music system, USB port, tachometer and front and rear fog lamps. The car retails for between RS 2.95 lakh (US$6,519) and Rs 4.77 lakh (US$10,537). (March 11, 2011)
