Tata Motors to redesign Indica model with fuel-efficient diesel engine

In an effort to boost sagging sales of its flagship car Indica, Tata Motors is redesigning the model with fuel efficiency in mind. The engine will feature a fuel-efficient diesel design, with mileage of more than 25 kilometers per liter (kpl) or 58.8 miles per gallon (mpg). A hatchback version of the Indica will be launched in March 2011. The newly launched car will also feature new interiors and exteriors. The Indica will join the Nano as another of Tato’s fuel efficient cars. The Nano is a hatchback that offers a mileage of 23.6 kpl or 55.5 mpg and is the top fuel-efficient petrol car in India, according to the Automotive Research Association of India. Tata has been hit with increasing competition in the automotive market, as fuel efficiency has become a key factor when consumers make a car purchase. (February 25, 2011)
