Tata Motors issues recall of upgraded Nano
Tata Motors will spend some Rs 110 crore (US$22.3 million) for the replacement of the starter motors in the upgraded Nano it launched in November. This is the second time that Tata has issued a recall, which is considered the biggest replacement exercise in the history of the Indian automobile industry. In November 2010, Tata recalled around 70,000 Nano cars to install additional fire safety devices which were given free of charge, after several Nanos caught fire. Although recalls are not popular in India, there have been a few through the years. In mid-December, Toyota recalled 41,000 of its Etios sedan and the small car Liva, to replace a faulty inlet pipe. Maruti Suzuki, Honda and Skoda have also issued recalls in the past. (December 27, 2011)
