Tata Motors begins exports of Nano
Tata Motors, India’s largest auto maker, will begin exporting the Nano mini-car this spring. The Nano mini-car is known as the world’s cheapest car. Industry experts state that the company may begin exporting the Nano to Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Africa by the end of the year. The Nano retails at US$3,151 for the base model. The mini-car comes equipped with a 624 cubic centimeter rear gasoline engine. Nano sales are on an upsurge after a dramatic drop in sales due to reported safety issues which have now been corrected, according to the company. In April, the company sold 10,012 Nano units. A new model, the Pixel, based on the Nano could be sold in the European market. (May 9,2011)
