Taiwan unveils plans for biofuels use
Taiwan unveiled plans to promote green energy use in June, starting with all government vehicles in Taipei using 3% ethanol-blended gasoline in September. Starting July 1% biodiesel will be available at all retail outlets in Taoyuan and Chiayi cities and counties and in all stations nationwide by 2008. Minister of Economic Affairs Steve Chen said that in addition to promoting energy-saving measures and upgrading energy efficiency, the government would aggressively push for the use of renewable energy. The government has set a goal of boosting the use of power generated by clean energy to 10% of the total by 2010. (June 13, 2007)
