Taiwan ideal for solar energy, biofuels

Taiwan looks promising to develop solar energy and biofuels given the country’s well-established semiconductor manufacturing industry and fermentation technology, a Taiwan industrial research institute said. The Topology Research Institute researchers said that Taiwan’s strong semiconductor industry provides the country with a ready means to develop solar energy. Researchers also forecast that by 2010, the global output of alternative energies will have a value topping US$625 billion. (July 26, 2006)
