Sustainable biofuels and forestry bills go to the House
The New Zealand Parliament is set to consider bills said to benefit the country’s biofuel industry and encourage sustainable forestry. One bill, if passed, would restore a sustainability standard for biofuel and also rule out fuel made from food crops or those that did not significantly reduce carbon emissions. Another bill will allow the country to import only sustainably produced timber. The bills were picked last week from a 24-bill draw, which included nine from New Zealand’s Green Party. (June 18, 2009)
