Stricter measures proposed for retailers

The Vietnam Standards and Consumer Association said government agencies would soon impose stricter measures on petrol retailers who commit trade fraud. Association President Nguyen Nam Vinh said a survey had shown that retailers had sold petrol that failed to meet standards of quality and quantity. The association collected in September and October 105 petrol samples from retail shops of eight companies, including Petrolimex, Petechim, the Military Petroleum Company (MPC), Metro Mekong and Sai Gon Petrol, and 39 of these samples were sub-standard, Vinh said. Hoang Lam, the deputy director of the Quality Assurance and Testing Centre No. 3, said that it was necessary to establish close co-operation among agencies to improve supervision and disciplinary measures must be adjusted to protect consumers.
