SsangYong NZ unveils new green, fuel-efficient engines
Deon Cooper, general manager of SsangYong NZ, says the company is gearing up for the future of the motoring industry. “The SsangYong engine division in Korea has recognized the need and is focused on the development of fuel efficient engines,” said Cooper. The company has announced the launch of a new eco engine with greater fuel efficiency and a reduction in CO2 emissions. The new engine will include a new hybrid model. The engines work with either front wheel drive unibody or rear wheel applications. Three new diesel engines introduced by the company meet Euro 5 and Euro 6 emission standards. They can be used in SUV’s, luxury passenger cars and hybrid models. The company states, “We already have one of these eco diesel engines in the new Korando which uses only 5.5 liters per 100km. With the significant rise in the price of petrol in New Zealand recently, this option is becoming particularly attractive for motorists.” The diesel engines include the 2.0 liter Active Diesel engine, the Green Diesel engine and the turbocharger diesel engine. The Active Diesel engine was designed to enhance torque at low- to mid-engine speeds. The Green Diesel 2.0 liter engine is targeted at providing better fuel efficiency. The optimized design allows for a reduction in friction loss creating, a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions. The turbocharger 2.2 liter 2-stage diesel engine provides a small turbocharger for low medium speeds and a large turbocharger for high speed. (March 15, 2011)
