SriLankan Airlines flights go green

SriLankan Airlines has made a full and unconditional commitment to environmental conservation. The airline said it has formed a fuel efficiency department in July 2008 and has since increased its fuel efficiency by an average of 3.91% per month up to the end of January, when its savings climbed to a record high of 5.63%. Its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Manoj Gunawardena said the airline’s conservation efforts were driven from the bottom up, with the involvement of every employee. The Green Flight involves a comprehensive range of measures to make each flight as environment-friendly as possible, including the use of recyclable consumables on board and flying practices that minimize fuel burn, carbon emissions and reduce noise levels.
