Sri Lanka to utilize satellite technology to track fuel tankers

In an effort to reduce theft and the contamination of petroleum products while in transit to retail outlets, the Sri Lankan government will use satellite technology to monitor fuel tankers while in transit. The new system will allow real-time monitoring of tanker movements. The tracking system can even monitor the inside temperature of the tanks, valves and seals once they move out of the fuel terminals in Kolonnawa and Muthrajawela, near Colombo. The technology will allow monitoring of drivers if they deviate from the official route or stop at unauthorized gasoline stations, thus preventing potential fuel contamination/adulteration.
