South Korea to create clean-diesel car parts industry
The government will develop a clean-diesel car parts industry in the country, South Korea’s Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MKE) said. Clean-diesel vehicles emit significantly lesser exhaust emissions than conventional diesel-powered vehicles, and has higher efficiency compared to gasoline-fueled vehicles of the same class. MKE plans to support the development of technology in six areas, including power generation parts, power transmission parts, sash and lightweight material parts, pre/post processors and engine parts, hybrid parts and the production base, and related businesses. The project is expected to create 5,000 new jobs that will produce 5 trillion won (US$4.18 billion) of car parts and exports valued at US$3 billion. (August 24, 2010)
