South Korea to announce caps on GHG emissions

South Korea said it would release plans for caps on greenhouse gas emissions in the country some time this year. The government is taking care to formulate ways for major industry players to voluntarily cut their emissions, as it wants to make the reductions measurable, reportable and verifiable. Media reports noted that South Korea wants to serve as a bridge between major developing states not part of binding emissions targets, including China and India, while showing leading industrialized states that it understands its global responsibilities.
