South Korea has more vehicles than households
There are more vehicles than households in South Korea, according to data from the Korean Automobile Manufacturers Association and the National Statistical Office. At the end of 2008, a total of 16,794,287 automobiles were registered in the country, while households numbered only 16,673,162. Of the overall figure, 12,483,808 were passenger cars. Gasoline-powered cars occupied 66% of the total passenger cars as of the end of last year, down from 91.3% in 1993 due to encouragement of drivers to use liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) vehicles. Diesel-powered cars accounted for 19.9% and LPG vehicles 14.1%. (May 3, 2009)
