Smart Earth introduces new plant-based lubricant
Smart Earth Corporation introduced EcoLube, a lubricant-in-a-can similar to WD-40. The new lubricant however, is not made from petroleum; it is plant-based, made with soy from Southwestern Ontario’s farms. The all-Canadian product is made by Guelph-based Smart Earth Corporation in cooperation with its parent company, Linnaeus Plant Sciences Inc. Soy 20/20, a collaboration of various Canadian groups, is in charge of product development and marketing. Jeff Schmalz, president of Soy 20/20, said he expects that the next soy-oil products will be for commercial and industrial use in hydraulic, transmission and engine oils. (June 18, 2012)
