SK seeks growth via green technology

SK Group said it would prioritize research and development (R&D) investments to become a leading global player in green technology. SK said that by 2010, it plans to invest a total of one trillion won (US$696.55 million) in seven strategic areas of sustainable energy technologies, including “clean coal” technology, marine biofuels, solar cells, carbon dioxide-based energy, green cars, hydrogen fuel cells and the eco-city project, which aims to create a more environmentally friendly community by bringing green technology to the populace. At the same time, the company said it will work on lowering the cost of gasifying coal, while looking to acquire new technologies via mergers and acquisitions. (February 24, 2009)
