Sinopec starts selling Euro 5 gasoline at Shanghai stations

Ten Sinopec pump stations in downtown Shanghai have begun offering higher quality gasoline that meets Euro 5 norms on Sept. 1, the Shanghai Daily reported.
Under the so-called National V standard, the 90, 93 and 97-octane gasoline have been replaced by 89, 92 and 95-octane gasoline, respectively. The new fuels contain lower sulfur and manganese.
Sinopec, which has a 70% market share in Shanghai, said it plans to complete upgrading fuel quality supply at all its stations by the end of October.
It plans to offer Euro 5 gasoline at all 49 of its stations within the Inner Ring Road before Sept. 20.
Sinopec will also start offering National V diesel at selected stations from mid-September and at all its stations by the end of October.
Tong Xiaojun, deputy general manager of Sinopec’s Shanghai branch, said prices will remain unchanged at least until the company completes the upgrade at all its local stations.
