Sinopec Shanghai to hike refining capacity

Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Co., a Hong Kong- and Shanghai-listed subsidiary of Chinese state-owned oil giant Sinopec, has submitted an application to the central government to expand its crude processing capacity by two million metric tons per year (MTPY) to 16 MTPY. The Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical refinery currently has a designed crude processing capacity of 14 million MTPY. “We are scheduled to add at least one crude distillation unit and one fluid catalytic cracking unit when we get the approval from the government,” the source said, adding that the expansion project is expected to be completed in the next two years.
