Sinopec cuts sulfur dioxide emissions by 24,100 tons in 2009

Sinopec Group in 2009 produced 34.43 million metric tons of gasoline meeting the Euro III standard, equivalent to a reduction of 24,100 tons of sulfur dioxide. The Sinopec Group said it invested 11 billion yuan (US$1.61 billion) during 2005-2009 in building and upgrading its refining units so as to produce more environmentally friendly products. Huang Wensheng, the company spokesman, said all of Sinopec Group’s refining units have started to produce gasoline meeting the National Standard III (Guo-III), equivalent to the Euro III standard, since a product upgrading campaign started in January 2007. The new Guo-IV standard, an updated version of Guo-III standard, was also undertaken by the company in Beijing and Shanghai. (June 9, 2010)
