Sinochem gets environmental approval for Quanzhou refinery

China’s Sinochem Corp. has received environmental approval for its proposed 240,000 barrel per day refinery at Quanzhou, on China’s southeast coast. The plant, which Sinochem aims to start operating by the end of 2013, is one of China’s major greenfield refineries that will come onstream in 2011-2015. The new refinery is expected to cost the company US$4.6 billion. It is expected to be operational by the end of 2013. The Quanzhou refinery will process crude oil supplied by Kuwait. It is unclear if Sinochem will get foreign partners for the plant. (July 28, 2011)
