Singapore sets new bunker chain standard

Singapore’s new national bunker supply chain standard will be fully implemented July 1, the Maritime and Port Authority said. The Singapore Standard 600 or SS 600 details guidelines and procedures to ensure the delivery of correct quality and quantity of bunkers and is intended to enhance and consolidate the requirements and procedures for the delivery of bunkers by bunker tankers to vessels, as well as the bunker surveying works of bunker surveyors. The MPA said it will require bunker suppliers and craft operators to abide by SS 600 to obtain a license to conduct bunker and bunker fuel-related operations. (March 4, 2009)
