Singapore April Retail Sales Dn 11.7% On Year

Singapore’s April retail sales declined at a faster pace than in March, government data showed Monday. The Singapore Department of Statistics said in a statement that April retail sales fell 11.7% from same time a year earlier, compared with a 7.2% decline in March. The weak April print was attributed to weak motor vehicle sales, as well as to weaker furniture and household equipment sales. Gasoline sales also fell sharply, largely due to lower prices. Singapore’s April retail sales fell 3.1% from the previous month in seasonally adjusted terms, compared with a 5% decline in March. (June 15, 2009)
