Siemens expands turbine production in Asia
Siemens AG said it will continue the expansion of local manufacturing operations in growth markets. The company announced it will expand its steam turbine production in the Indian state of Gujarat for approximately €40 million (US$55.51 million). A new production facility with a surface area of 14,000 square meters is planned, tripling production capacity for high-efficiency industrial steam turbines by 2010. The turbines will be distributed in India and exported throughout Asia and Africa, where they will contribute to providing extensive power supply. Siemens is also building a new production facility worth €60 million (US$83.83 million) in Lingang New City in Shanghai. By establishing this new rotor blade and nacelle plant, the company touted it is further strengthening its environmental portfolio. This new facility is scheduled to be operational in the second half of 2010, initially with 400 employees. The wind turbines produced in Shanghai will be marketed in China and will also be exported to other countries. (June 2, 2009)
