Shell to keep name after sale of downstream business in Uganda
Shell in Uganda will continue to use the brand after its sale to Vitol and Helios Investment Partners, according to country manager. “The Shell brand and everything you know about it is going to stay but the Shell owners are going to change,” he said. Shell has business in Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, Togo, Senegal, Mali and Guinea. Shell agreed to sell a majority of its downstream businesses in February 2011 for US$1 billion. It will retain a 20% stake in the businesses. The acquisition is to be completed by April 2012. Under the agreement, Shell will continue to provide both Shell fuels and lubricants in the 14 African countries affected by the acquisition. (July 28, 2011)
