Shell to build world’s first floating LNG project
Royal Dutch Shell plc announced that it will move forward on its decision to build the world’s first FLNG facility in Australia called the Prelude Floating Liquefied Natural Gas project. The project will allow for the production of gas from offshore fields, where it will be liquefied by cooling on the largest floating offshore facility in the world. The offshore facility will be built in the shipyards of South Korea. When complete, the facility will be 488 meters long and will weigh 600,000 tons. The new FLNG facility will allow Shell to tap approximately 3 trillion cubic feet contained in the Prelude gas field, which was discovered by the company in 2007. (May 20,2011)
