Shell launches ethanol storage facility

New South Wales Regional Services Minister Tony Kelly officially launched the A$2 million (US$1.8 million) Shell Parramatta Ethanol Storage and Blending Facility at Shell Oil on Durham St., Rosehill, in Australia. The facility includes four underground storage tanks filled with 450,000 liters of ethanol, Kelly said. The NSW Government passed legislation in June to ensure that 2% of petrol in NSW was made of ethanol from October 1. Shell Unleaded E10 is sold at 120 Shell service stations in NSW. We’re not buying the ethanol from overseas so that is a big benefit to the economy, Kelly said. The feedstock used to make ethanol is wheat and starch waste. Joining Kelly at the launch were Parramatta State Labor MP Tanya Gadiel and Shell Australia General Manager of Clyde Refinery and Gore Bay Terminal David Johnston. (September 26, 2007)
