Shell, ICC-CAS join hands on higher alcohol technology

Shell recently has entered into a cooperative R&D agreement with the Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Science (ICC-CAS) on developing technologies to transfer coal-derived synthesis gas (syngas) into higher alcohols, said Shell on Nov. 30, 2008. Under the strategic partnership, both sides will develop new methods to transfer syngas and will test and improve production process. The technology is expected to become a good way to utilize clean coal and reduce dependence on petroleum resources while producing clean fuels and fuel additives. (December 16, 2008)
