Shanghai's new-energy vehicle subsidy may reach 11,000 yuan
Shanghai’s subsidy plan for private buyers of new-energy vehicles has been submitted to the Chinas central government for approval. The local government is likely to add 20,000 yuan (US$2,944) for hybrid vehicle buyers and 40,000 to 50,000 yuan (US$5,889-US$7,361) for the pure-electric buyers. Shanghai New Energy Vehicle Promotion Office Head Liu Jianhua said that Shanghai aims to possess 20,000 units of electric vehicles, and to manufacture 25,000 charging poles and 50 charging stations by 2012. Previously, the central government introduced subsidies for new energy car-buyers in five pilot cities, namely Shanghai, Changchun, Shenzhen, Hangzhou and Hefei. Under the subsidy policy, the buyer of a plug-in hybrid car or an all-electric vehicle received a subsidy ranging from 50,000 to 60,000 yuan (US$7,361-8,833). (August 13, 2010)
