Shanghai imposes State IV emissions standard

New vehicles sold in Shanghai that run on gasoline will have to meet China’s State IV emissions standard as of November 1, 2009. Shanghai, the second city in China after Beijing to implement this standard, will not register new vehicles that do not comply. China State IV is equivalent to the Euro 4 standard. All gasoline and diesel fuel sold in the city will also be required to comply with the State IV fuel standard. Shanghai’s refineries, which include Jinshan Petrochemical and Gaoqiao Petrochemical, are capable of supplying these fuels. (January 9, 2009)
