Shanghai GM sets ambitious green strategy

Shanghai GM has outlined its environmental targets for 2011-2015 under the next phase of its Drive to Green strategy. The eco-minded business plan was launched in January 2008 and is aimed at introducing products that offer better performance, consume less energy and generate lower emissions than current vehicles. The original equipment manufacturer (OEM) has already reached several of the original targets announced in 2008. Looking ahead, Shanghai GM plans to introduce 12 new engines through 2015, including several with small displacements, such as a 1.5-liter variable valve timing (VVT) engine and 1.4-liter turbocharged engine. Vehicles with engines that have displacements of between 1.4- and 2.5-liters will account for 95% of total company sales in the future. By 2015, the OEM aims to cut fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 15%, while enhancing performance by 14%. (June 15, 2010)
