Sasol to produce 7.3 million tons at synthetic fuel plant in 2012

Sasol, the South African petrochemicals group which produces motor fuel from coal, expects to produce approximately 7.3 million tons of products at its synthetic fuel plant. Stephan Schoeman, managing director at Sasol Synfuels Secunda, said output could be interrupted by work stoppages and delays from strikes over wages. Labor problems have been plaguing the company in recent weeks. Schoeman said, “This industrial action impacted us very heavily. We have to see how quickly we recover, get the workshops up and running again and get the whole supply chain of materials coming through.” The company is looking to expand plant capacity by 2014.
