Sasol and Tata to build CTL plant in Orissa
Tata Steel and South Africa’s Sasol Synfuels Pty. Ltd. expressed their desire to set up a 3.6-million-ton per annum coal-to-liquid (CTL) plant in Orissa, India. The proposed plant will produce 18,000 barrels per day (bpd) of petroleum products, including diesel fuel, naphtha, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), tar, sulfur and ammonia. Tata Steel Vice Chairman B. Muthuraman and Sasol Synfuels Pty. Ltd. Managing Director Ernst Oberholster met with Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to discuss the proposed project. The CTL project would involve an investment of Rs 40,000-45,000 crore (US$8.7-9.86 billion). It will be completed over a period of eight years in 2018. (January 19, 2010)
