Sarina ethanol to fuel solar challenge bid

The Panasonic World Solar Challenge, which was first staged in 1987, has recently introduced a Greenfleet Class in which teams provide a demonstration of hybrid, custom and concept vehicles using energy efficient and low carbon fuels. Ethanol produced at Sarina, in north Queensland, will help fuel one team in this year’s World Solar Challenge. The team is vying for its second consecutive title in the Greenfleet class. This year we’re doing a total change of pace and I’ve managed to talk Saab into loaning us one of the new bio-power cars which can actually run on either straight unleaded fuel or any mix up to 85% ethanol, Spokesman Brian Norris said.
