S-Oil’s aromatic complex unit now in full operation
South Korea’s S-Oil Corp. announced that its two-year, US$1.2 billion expansion project of its No. 2 Aromatic Complex plant is now operational. The expanded plant produces paraxylene and benzene for use in the production of polyester and petrochemicals. The plant expansion doubles the company’s annual petrochemical production capacity to 1.6 million tons for paraxylene and 300,000 tons for benzene. “The plant is our new growth engine and future driving force that will help us diversify our business areas and establish a solid presence in these areas, said CEO Ahmed A. Subey. S-Oil is the country’s third largest oil refinery. (May 31, 2011)
