S. Korean airlines agree to cut greenhouse gas emissions
The South Korean government has signed a deal with three domestic airlines to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) by enhancing their overall fuel efficiency. The deal with Korean Air, Asiana Airlines and Jeju Air calls for the companies to set emission-cutting targets and prepare detailed action plans to reduce GHG for one year, according to the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs. Each carrier will also step up efforts to reduce flight weight, enhance engine functions of airplanes and seek other measures to improve overall fuel efficiency, the ministry said. The deal is in line with the government’s intensifying efforts towards “green growth,” joining the worldwide movement to fight climate change. (July 29, 2010)
