Rosneft, VW sign agreement to develop CNG market
Rosneft President Igor Sechin and General Director of LLC Volkswagen Group Rus Markus Osegowitsch signed an agreement aimed at the development of the compressed natural gas (CNG) market in Russia, as well as the CNG-powered vehicles market, Rosneft said in a press release.
The agreement means both groups will work towards the development of CNG filling infrastructures, providing equipment at Rosneft filling stations to provide CNG sales, and bringing CNG-powered vehicles by Volkswagen, Audi, SKODA, and VW commercial vehicles to the market.
Rosneft also signed two other agreements recently which are aimed at encouraging the use of natural gas as motor fuel.
Sechin, Governor of Stavropol Territory Valery Zerenkov, and Kamaz CEO Sergei Kogogin signed an agreement to develop joint projects to switch petrol and diesel fuel used by vehicles with natural gas motor fuel in the Stavropol Territory. A similar agreement was signed with the government of Voronezh Region.
Samara Region Governor Nikolai Merkushkin and Rosneft also signed an agreement of cooperation for implementing measures to expand the use of CNG as motor fuel. A similar agreement was signed with Krasnodar Territory.
Rosneft has also looked to expand their businesses with the help of two other groups. They signed an agreement with Kamaz for scientific and technical cooperation with a view to expanding the use of CNG as motor fuel, and they signed a memorandum with Russian Railways to promote the use of natural gas as a fuel in rail transport.
