Report says Singapore Refining will build lube base oil plant in Jurong

Singapore Refining Co. (SRC), which operates a 285,000 barrel-per-day refinery on Jurong Island, Singapore, is reportedly planning on building a lube base oil plant. The report from Business Times said the base oil plant will be built, together with the “green petrol” project which had been delayed. Business Times said SRC co-owners PetroChina and Chevron could give the green light for the two projects as early as February. A project team has already been assembled by the two companies to handle the projects simultaneously, it said. The green petrol project, which will produce low-sulfur fuel, is expected to cost US$300-400 million. The addition of a lube base oil plant is expected to push the total cost up to about US$500 million. The investment will also include a 60-70 megawatt in-house cogeneration plant. Chevron, which also licenses lube isodewaxing technology, is said to be keen in adding a base oil plant at SRC. (January 14, 2012)
