Renewables’ share in transport fuels to double in 10 years
Royal Dutch Shell expects the share of renewable energy in transport fuels worldwide to double over the next 10 years from the current 10%. “We are, in my opinion, 10 years away from algae-to-fuels’ commercial implementation,” Jose Bravo, a chief scientist at Shell, said in a website presentation. The Hague-based company expects the world to have more than 2 billion cars by 2050, up from about 900 million now, said Nick Allen, vice president for refining and marketing management. The company said it plans to drop investments in wind, solar and hydrogen energy, and focus its remaining renewable energy investments on biofuels instead. (May 12, 2010)
