Renault-Nissan alliance to promote EVs in China

The Renault-Nissan alliance has secured an agreement with the provincial government of Guangdong in China to promote electric vehicles (EVs) in the country, reports Kyodo News. The agreement involves the joint establishment of EV charging points and related facilities by the Development and Reform Commission of Guangdong province and the automaker. The automakers revealed in a joint statement that they have already secured a similar agreement with the provincial government of Wuhan recently. This follows reports that Nissan intends to begin importing its new Leaf EV into the Chinese market during 2011, with plans to eventually produce the model locally depending upon demand.
