Reliance plans to build 1st biodiesel plant in India

India’s Reliance Industries Ltd. plans to build the country’s first biodiesel plant, the Mint newspaper reported, citing unnamed sources. An RIL spokesperson declined to comment on the report. RIL has ambitious plans for the biofuels business and is cultivating jatropha, in a 32-hectare plot at Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh. It can be produced from vegetable oil, animal oil or fat, tallow and waste cooking oil. (February 22, 2007)
