Recharging facilities for EVs present big challenge in Korea

The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs announced in January that electric vehicles will be allowed to run on selected roads in Korea from March 30, but electric cars and related issues still have kinks to be smoothed out. One of the main problems to be solved before making electric cars commonplace in Korea is the lack of recharging facilities and convenient access to power sources as a large proportion of Koreans live in apartment buildings. “Our vehicles are designed for short-distance traveling so recharging facilities are not essential requirements, but for now recharging an electric car other than the detached houses would be difficult,” Seong Kee-joon of CT&T, Korea’s leading electric car specialist.
