Qatar's Woqod announces expansion plans

Qatar Fuel (Woqod), the downstream joint stock oil storage, distribution and marketing company announced expansion plans on April 25. The company is currently involved in the implementation of more than 37 projects across the country, including petrol stations, vehicle inspection centers (Fahes) and product supply pipelines, said Mohamed Turki Al Sobai, vice chairman and managing director of Woqod.
Al Sobai announced that three petrol stations, located at Roda Al Hamam, Abu Samra and Mesaieed West, are completely ready for opening. The company is waiting for permission from the Civil Defense Department.
Other projects are currently either under construction such as Mesaieed North and the Pearl, or in tendering stages to be constructed in different areas including Al Wakra and Al Ruhaia, among others. These projects are expected to be completed during 2013.
A Saudi Arabia project is in the tendering stage, and it will be launched in the second quarter of 2013. Expansion projects for existing petrol stations are currently taking place at 11 locations including Al Hilal, Industrial Area, North University and West Bay. Some of these expansions are near completion and the others will be finished during the first half of 2013.
Two technical vehicle inspection centers located at the Mesaimeer petrol station and Wadi Al Banat (North University) petrol stations are completed and fully equipped. The official inauguration will take place during the second half of 2013.
A jet fuel project is currently being executed by Qatar Petroleum on behalf of Woqod. The first phase, which includes a pipeline to carry all types of petroleum products from Mesaieed Refinery to Doha Depot, has been completed. The second phase, which will supply Hamad International Airport with jet fuel (Jet-A1), will be commissioned before the opening of the Hamad International Airport.
Woqod’s marketing activities and retail services include LPG, bitumen, car washes, lubricants, repair workshops, post offices and other activities. During the first quarter of 2013, total revenues of marketing services increased by 48% compared to the same period a year ago.
